OCPS Elementary School Counselors
Elementary school counselors have a master's degree and are certified in school counseling. They are professionals with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today's diverse student population. As a member of a school team, a counselor provides a comprehensive guidance program for students in grade K - 5 designed to help students achieve success in school.
The counselor implements the elementary guidance curriculum: counsels small groups and individual student with problems that create barriers to school success: consults with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students; and refers students with severe problems to appropriate community agencies in consultation with their parents.
